Check Your Running Man

In sixth grade, my friend Lindsay threw the world’s most awesome birthday party. First of all, it was a *boy-girl* party. And it was blissfully parent-free. (I think her mom was hiding somewhere in the wings, but her presence was masterfully subtle.) And finally, she had a near-professional-grade juxebox on hand to pump, pump the jams!

Well, what was a nerdy girl with no advantage of hip-hop dances at the local Y to do? I didn’t want to act the fool on the dance floor…but I also didn’t want to NOT dance and lose out on fun and possible proximity to boys.

Well, at the party, I swallowed my pride and asked the birthday girl herself to “check” my Running Man and make sure it was party-ready. She agreeably obliged, and thus we found ourselves sneaking into the kitchen. I busted loose, she gave me a few pointers, and we went out on the dance floor together. It was a blissful moment when a cool girl helped out a nerdy childhood friend, and all was right with the world.

So before you go out this weekend, friends, be sure to have someone check your Running Man. And if you just can’t bring yourself to ask for dance advice, be sure to watch Will Smith master the move at :45 of this video:
